This book taught me that a good way to ruin a sci-fi story for me is to make it a murder mystery. Seems like the mystery genre a lamented here doesn't even work for me when it comes in the Trojan horse of space-faring adventures.
It was an okay story, but the whole "oh look, a twist you could not have guessed that changes everything and then it's suddenly over" thing is just stupid.
